About this space & project
The Lodge by Barringer & Spruce is a luxury forest lodge in the Laurelville area of Hocking Hills, bordering Hocking State Forest. With four private king suites—each with a double-vanity ensuite bathroom & premium mattress and pillows—up to eight adults can enjoy a true lodge experience without bunk rooms or crammed bathrooms. Commune in the chef’s kitchen, seamlessly connected to dining and living spaces. Spread out across spacious outdoor decks on three levels. Soak in the saltwater hot tub. Hike the bridle trails steps away.

Notes about sleeping arrangements
- Four private king bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom
- Ideally suited for up to eight adults
- For families traveling with children, the pullout sofa in the open upper-level landing provides additional sleeping space for up to two guests
- Though, the pullout sofa is nowhere near as nice a sleeping area as the premium mattresses we chose in each bedroom.
- The landing is a shared common area, not a private bedroom, and does not have its own bathroom; guests sleeping there will use one of the bedroom bathrooms
- Transparently, you will see that this space was not designed to pack as many people as possible into each viable sleeping space; other lodges are likely a better fit for that approach
Other amenities
- Starlink WiFi
- Enough coffee, tea, firewood + starters, and propane to get you sufficiently started
- Steps from access to hiking nearly 40 miles of Hocking State Forest bridle trails (just be prepared for some mud!)
Working from The Lodge by Barringer & Spruce
- Particularly well-suited for small executive retreats of up to 4 people
- Three dedicated desks: one in the main-level king bedroom and one in each upper-level king bedroom
- Additional flexible workspace at the dining table or kitchen island
- Central dining table provides a comfortable setting for meetings
- Easy flow between the kitchen, dining area, and living room for coffee breaks, presentations, and shared downtime
- Monitor(s) available by request
A note about amenities for kids
Kids are absolutely welcome at The Lodge! We have a pack n play & high chair available upon request since we don’t keep that gear out. And we can provide sleeping arrangement suggestions for particular ages where helpful. Transparently, just know that we didn’t curate a space to entertain children specifically. We saw so many other lodges in the area focused on kid-centered entertainment; if you will be disappointed to not find arcade games or a playroom at our place, then another lodge is probably a better fit. If you do bring kids, we think you can spend quality time with them here, just plan for extra supervision to take care of them in this adult-oriented space. The space is not child-proofed.

About the person and intentions behind this project
This project is the brainchild of Phoebe, the human who made this website and lives in Columbus, OH. After years of health issues, she deeply understands the healing value of high quality getaway space in the woods that also provides reliable comfort for nourishment, sleep, and communing with people we love. Traveling with health issues can be hard, hard, hard especially when the space looks nice but you get there and it smells like a candle factory or cleaning supplies...or you go to lay down for sleep and learn that the host decided to skimp on mattresses, pillows, and linens...or the kitchen is lacking or maybe the appliances don't even work completely because your host didn't think you would actually need to cook all of your meals. This space is the antithesis to every one of those spaces Phoebe has encountered. And we hope you find comfort in our space to spend nourishing time in the woods with people you love.
A few intentional touches you may or may not notice are:
- Scentless, nontoxic cleaning products and soaps
- Water filtration and softening
- Air purification at both the room (optional) and HVAC level (which you won't see because you aren't allowed in the HVAC room, lol)
- Cotton bed linens, blankets, and towels
- Allergy-friendly pillows
To many people these details may seem unhinged, and that's fine there are literally hundreds of other listings in Hocking Hills that don't have any of these touches and those people may be happier cutting costs and staying elsewhere!
